This degree apprenticeship intends to develop and strengthen the leadership and management skills of new and existing managers. It is designed for everyone from individuals at the start of their careers, to those who wish to obtain a degree in management to enhance the practical knowledge they have already gained.
The course uses your professional experience and the latest research to expand your skills and knowledge of fundamental business concepts such as project management, business finance, and marketing. You will develop a critical understanding of both the theory and practice of business management, whilst focusing on the challenges of your specific workplace. This will prepare you to progress onto more senior management and leadership roles.
The apprenticeship is designed with approximately 27 days per year of face-to-face teaching at the University, along with online and distance learning activities. The rest of your time will be spent in your workplace, giving you the opportunity to practically apply the theories that you are learning. This will offer you a high degree of flexibility, so that you can balance your study and work. Your learning will be fully supported by a workplace mentor from your employer and a personal tutor from the University.
Lifelong Learning Centre Support
If you are a mature student or want to study part-time, the Lifelong Learning Centre offers a free, confidential and impartial pre-entry guidance service.
You’ll study functional, operational, and strategic aspects of management across five themed pathways, covering consultancy, leadership, skills, innovation, and decision-making. The course is taught within the context of ethics and responsibility, global and cultural insight, and employability threads that run through the modern workplace.

Learning and teaching
Teaching is imaginative and supportive to make sure that you are intellectually stretched and helped to become an independent inquirer. Group sizes are small enabling you to engage actively and be well supported.
On this course you’ll be taught by our expert academics, from lecturers through to professors. You may also be taught by industry professionals with years of experience, as well as trained postgraduate researchers, connecting you to some of the brightest minds on campus.
Assessments are varied and include essays, projects, case studies, group presentations, and examinations. This wide range gives you the opportunity to work to your strengths and to gain skills in different forms of expression.
A-level: 3 A-level passes or equivalent
GCSE: English and Maths grade C/4 or above, or equivalent. T Levels will be considered on a case by case basis.
Other course specific tests:
Work experience which demonstrates your appreciation of a range of different roles and/or work settings and/or management.
Additional consideration will be given to life experience and circumstances in which you have gained prior qualifications.

Alternative Entry Scheme for mature applicants
If you are a mature applicant (over 21 at the point of entry) and you don’t have the required A Levels or GCSE qualifications, you can complete our Alternative Entry Scheme (subject to meeting the eligibility criteria for the scheme).
As part of this, you may be asked to take tests in English and maths and to write an essay. Contact the Lifelong Learning Centre for more information.

UK: £9,250 (per year)
The fees for this course are paid by your employer through the apprenticeship levy. Please note you will not be eligible for a tuition fee or maintenance loans from the Student Loan Company.

Applicants must be employed in an appropriate role and at an appropriate level, in either a levy-paying or non-levy paying institution. Individual employers will set the select criteria for their apprenticeships. Applications for this course should be made via your line manager in the first instance. Employers should contact the Lifelong Learning Centre for more information.
Apprentices must meet the eligibility criteria specified in the ESFA funding rules. The minimum duration of each apprenticeship is based on the apprentice working 30 hours a week or more, including any off-the-job training they undertake. If the apprentice works fewer than 30 hours a week it may be possible to extend the minimum duration (pro rata) to take account of this. This will need to be done in consultation with the University, the employer and the applicant.
The selection process will include an interview with your employer and the Lifelong Learning Centre to assess suitability.
