<p><h3>Top 15 in the world for Earth and Marine Science, QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018</h3><p>We are a major international powerhouse for <a href="">environmental research</a> that has wide-ranging and positive impacts on the world that we live in. Our research is carried out within five institutes which represent our core research areas, but much of our work is cross-cutting, tackling complex global challenges.</p><p>We welcome applications from students wishing to undertake a <a href="">research degree</a> within or across the following research institutes:</p><ul><li><a href="">Earth Surface Science Institute</a></li><li><a href="">Institute of Applied Geoscience</a></li><li><a href="">Institute of Geophysics and Tectonics</a></li><li><a href="">Institute for Climate and Atmospheric Science</a></li><li><a href="">Sustainability Research Institute</a></li></ul><p>Undertaking a research degree is both enormously challenging and rewarding which is why you must choose a research topic you are passionate about.
