Course overview

Our MSc Enterprise and Entrepreneurship develops your enterprise skills, giving you an insight into creating economic and social value through entrepreneurial activity.

You’ll gain the skills and knowledge to develop and manage your own business, as well as the ability to work more entrepreneurially in other organisations. By the end of the course, you’ll be adept at identifying new products, processes and markets to exploit opportunities in innovative ways.

Delivered and supported by award-winning academics and successful entrepreneurs, this course develops your understanding of enterprise and entrepreneurship on a global scale. Engaging with practical activities, you’ll gain skills in planning and designing a new venture, acting as a consultant to an existing organisation, and exploring your own entrepreneurial potential.

Our action-based teaching techniques enhance your skills and allow you to experience genuine business challenges faced by enterprise both locally and globally.

Course Highlights

• You’ll receive exceptional research-based teaching and practical support through our Centre for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Studies (CEES). The centre supports you in entrepreneurial activities, such as joining a student enterprise group, starting a business, taking on a social project, or entering a national competition.
• Teaching is underpinned by cutting-edge research, which explores how enterprise can be used as a force for positive change and action in the world.
• Gain real-world insight through the Centre’s network of Enterprise Ambassadors who help you to understand how to apply your enterprise education in practice.
• Benefit from practical learning to help you apply entrepreneurial theories. For example, you’ll plan and design a new venture, applying your skills in a live business environment during the ‘New Venture Challenge.’
• You'll have a dedicated Professional Development Tutor who’ll provide you with tailored academic and careers support. For example, supporting you through your career choices as well as identification and application for jobs.
• On all Masters courses at Leeds University Business School you’ll have an opportunity to apply for a place on a week-long international study tour which will include company visits, guest lectures and networking events, as well as an opportunity to visit local places of interest. Previous study tours have included visits to Berlin, Frankfurt, Milan and Zurich.

Course details

Introductory modules explore the concepts of enterprise and entrepreneurship and their role in society. You’ll examine how enterprise is seen around the world, and how different geographical, cultural and economic contexts create challenges for new ventures.

Learning directly from successful entrepreneurs during guest lectures, you’ll develop your understanding of research methods in business and enterprise studies.

You’ll work on a range of projects that allow you to gain real experience, such as creating a business plan for a new venture and delivering a consultancy project for an established company or social enterprise.

In the final semester, you’ll complete a dissertation project on a research question of your choice – this can be used to explore your own ideas for a new business venture or social enterprise, look at how best to support or grow an existing firm, or explore a research topic related to your ambitions.

Learning and teaching

You’ll be taught using a range of methods including lectures, tutorials, seminars and workshops. The rest of your time will be spent in independent learning, which allows you to develop your skills in research and analysis.

Our Virtual Learning Environment will help to support your studies: it’s a central place where you can find all the information and resources for the school, your programme and modules.

On this course, you’ll be taught by our expert academics, from lecturers through to professors. You may also be taught by industry professionals with years of experience, as well as trained postgraduate researchers, connecting you to some of the brightest minds on campus.

Assessment

Assessment methods emphasise not just knowledge, but essential skills development too. This may include formal exams, group projects, reports, computer simulation exercises, essays and written assignments, group and individual presentations and reflective logs.

This diversity enables you to develop a broad range of skills as preparation for professional life.

Applying

Entry requirements

A bachelor degree with a 2:1 (hons) in any subject. A background in business or management is desirable, but applicants from other disciplines are welcomed.

International qualifications

We accept a range of international equivalent qualifications.

English language requirements

IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in any component. For other English qualifications, read English language equivalent qualifications.

Improve your English

International students who do not meet the English language requirements for this programme may be able to study our postgraduate pre-sessional English course, to help improve your English language level.

This pre-sessional course is designed with a progression route to your degree programme and you’ll learn academic English in the context of your subject area. Scholarships and financial support

We’re offering up to 50 Business School Excellence Scholarships to UK and International students starting one of our Masters courses in 2025. These scholarships offer a 50% fee reduction and will be awarded to particularly deserving applicants who demonstrate excellent academic, professional and personal achievements.

You do not have to submit a separate application for our Excellence Scholarships - you will be automatically considered when your course application is reviewed.
